abitat Surveys

HEL has wide experience of undertaking both Phase 1 Habitat and National Vegetation Classification Surveys.  This has included county-wide Phase 1 surveys of East Lothian and Fife (c.600km2) and extensive NVC
mapping, e.g. Isle of Rum NNR (108km2) and a large part of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs (350km2).  HEL also has in-house expertise in habitat condition assessment, having
undertaken c. 150km2 since 1998.

HEL has extensive experience of  completing Ecological Assessment of proposed development projects, including:

  • forestry
  • housing
  • industrial
  • hydro-electric
  • windfarms
  • pipe-lines
  • roads and motorways
HEL can manage the entire assessment process or advise on specific aspects as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

mpact Assessment & Mitigation

As part of the Environment Assessment process, HEL can provide evaluation of ecological impacts of development and devise mitigation measures. We have considerable experience in producing realistic and achievable mitigation proposals emphasising traditional and innovative techniques such as green  engineering.  We have experience in habitat creation and translocation of animals and plants, including in-house expertise in the translocation of Great Crested Newt and other amphibian species.
