Mark Bates, HND, AIEEM

Mark has over 20 years' experience in ecology (NCC, JNCC, SNH and consultancy), specialising in Appropriate Assessment and EcIA of development projects (e.g. forestry, rail, road, renewable, urban and industrial). Mark is experienced in ecological survey and mitigation.

Simon Green, BSc, MSc, MIEEM

Simon has over 15 years' professional ecological experience in the statutory, charitable and private sectors. He has a broad spectrum of ecological knowledge specialising in habitat surveys, assessment and EcIA.

David Dowse, BLE, AIEEM

David Dowse has been with HEL for four years and heads the protected mammal team. David has extensive experience in ecological survey, assessment and mitigation, especially in respect of protected mammal species.
 
Simon Inger, BSc, MIEEM

Simon has been with HEL since 2004 and works as a herptile and protected mammal specialist. Simon has extensive experience in ecological survey, assessment, mitigation and ecological clerk of works.
 
Scott Knowles, BSc, MSc, MIEEM

Scott is a senior ecologist with eight years experience in independent consultancy. He has a broad range of ecological skills, including survey, ecological clerk of works and EcIA.

Pete Etheridge, BSc, MIEEM

Pete has been working with HEL since May 2008. As part of his role as Consultant Ecologist, Pete specialises in planning and undertaking ornithological surveys. He is also an experienced project manager, with skills and experience in a range of ecological surveys, land management practices and the preparation of EcIAs.

Derek Whitton, AIEEM

Derek is an ornithological specialist with over 14 years' ornithological survey experience. Derek has a specialist interest in raptors, is an active member of the Scottish Raptor Study Groups and is a BTO licensed bird ringer.
 
Jenny Wilson, BSc, AIEEM

Jenny has been employed by HEL since March 2008. Jenny specialises in protected mammal work with an active interest in bats and holds a Scottish Natural Heritage bat workers licence. Jenny also has experience in ecological survey, assessment and mitigation.
 
Ann-Marie MacMaster, BSc

Ann-Marie has worked for various ecological bodies across the UK for several years. Ann-Marie specialises in mammals and in particular, has experience of red squirrel and badger.
 
Karen Ramoo, BSc, MSc

Karen is an ornithological surveyor and has gained several years’ professional experience working with a variety of ornithological organisations. She is currently training for her BTO ringing licence.

Current Vacancies
Breeding Bird Surveyor
HEL is seeking an experienced ecologist to work on a large-scale breeding bird survey project.  The position will be based in the Aberfeldy area.
 
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years experience in a consultancy background or similar, specialising in birds. You must have excellent field skills and knowledge of British breeding birds, including their songs and calls. You should have experience of various bird survey techniques, including Moorland Bird Survey, Breeding Bird Survey and species-specific methods for raptors, grouse and waterfowl.
 
You must be self motivated and have good time management skills. You must be computer literate with a sound knowledge of Microsoft products and some knowledge of GIS (preferred). A full clean driving licence is essenitial. A vehicle and accommodation will be provided as part of the post. You should be a graduate in a relevant discipline (e.g. ecology, nature conservation, environmental management, etc.). Membership of the IEEM is preferred.
 
Pay: The post will be a 3-5 month contract. Pay will be dependant on experience. Starting date 1st April 2010.
