Heritage Environmental Ltd. (HEL) is a professional and highly respected ecological consultancy based in Scotland. Established in 1997, HEL provides landowners, public authorities, industry and government with professional and competitive ecological consultancy services, ecological surveys and assessments.

HEL have undertaken ecological impact assessments of major development proposals, including some of the most extensive infrastructure projects within the United Kingdom. HEL have experience in wind farm, forestry, hydro-electric, transmission lines, road and rail, housing and industrial development projects. HEL also provide ecological advice and expertise on a broad range of small-scale projects.

Our staff, comprising a team of in-house specialist consultants, are all members of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM) and possess a range of ecological skills.

Our ecological consultancy services include:

  • Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA);
  • Studies for Appropriate Assessment;

  • Protected mammal surveys (e.g. bat, red squirrel, pine marten, badger and otter surveys);

  • Invertebrate surveys (e.g. butterfly, dragonfly, damselfly and freshwater pearl mussel surveys);

  • Provision of an ecological clerk of works (ECoW);
  • Habitat creation and enhancement;
  • Ecological mitigation and Compensation; and
  • Provision of expert witness for Local Public Inquiry.
